Off the beaten track

It's kind of perverse that whenever I hear about someplace that's immensely hard to get to, I want to go there. Pitcairn Island? You bet. Yemen? No problem. Bhutan? Why not? I'll tell you why not: because the whole country is closed to tourism unless you go through the prohibitively expensive governmental treks, and otherwise you're not allowed in. Also, you can only go at certain times of year. And the whole country is no smoking.

But it looks so COOL.

I'm thinking about going someplace remarkably cool in the New Year. Probably not somewhere cool like these places are cool. But it's time to hit the road in a different country for a while.
